Who Am I?

My name is Sheirlyn. I am the mom of a boy who is my miracle child. I was diagnosed with IGA neuropathy when I was weeks pregnant. It was a very challenging pregnancy since I was given the option to terminate my baby because it was too risky for health and I could have died. But I decided to move on with my pregnancy knowing I will never be able to become a mom again. Through numerous appointments with my nephrologist and a high-risk pediatrician, I managed to reach 32 weeks of pregnancy, but my son was very small due to my kidneys. At 32 weeks, my blood pressure went high, and I had pre-eclampsia which destroyed my kidneys. My son was fine, but the doctor's had to do an emergency c-section to save my life. My son only weighed 2 pounds and 14 ounces and stayed in the NICU for a month before we brought him home. Soon after that I had to get surgery done for my peritoneal dialysis and wasn't able to hold my son for weeks. Thankfully I have a supportive husband who looked after my child while I was going through all this. My sisters tried to donate their kidney, but the doctor said IGA runs in our genes, so they could not. My husband tried as well but did not pass the evaluation. So here I'm praying for a miracle to happen so I can see my son grow up.

My Interests:

I enjoy playing with my son, Travelling (which I can't do often, due to dialysis), watching movies, and spending time with family.

How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:

I will be able to go back to work. However, most importantly, I will be able to watch my son grow up. I will forever be grateful to the person who will give me the gift of life.
