Who Am I?

My name is Fitzgerald Marche. I am 51 years old and married to my beautiful wife, Erica. Together we are raising a son, Cahvar, who is 13 years old. We are doing our best to avoid having to start dialysis due to the many hours I would have to spend undergoing treatment during the week. This will limit the hours in the day that I have to spend with my family, interacting with my son and his extracurricular activities, and assisting with his math homework. I am looking forward to my future and being able to live a more energetic life. This includes being able to stay outdoors longer with my son playing basketball, going on more walks during my lunch break, which I enjoy doing, and traveling more frequently around the world without being sick or worrying about trying to schedule a dialysis visit at a clinic near the hotel while on vacation.

By sharing my story with your group of family and friends, you help to increase the number of people who may consider kidney donation!

My Interests:

I am a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi where I have been on the Audit Committee, the By-Laws Committee, and an Assistant Exchequer. I am also a 20+ year member of International Free and Accepted Modern Masons, Inc. and Order of the Eastern Star where I am a Past Grand Master and currently the Potentate of Mecca #4 Shrine Temple.

My Diagnosis:

I was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2019. In 2020, after getting Covid-19, my GFR began to decline more quickly. Since then, I have begun eating a diet that will support my efforts in sustaining a lifestyle that can assist in keeping my kidneys functioning well enough to avoid dialysis. However, my doctor has encouraged me to start prepping to start dialysis sooner than later. My hopes are high that I can avoid this by finding a living donor as soon as possible.

How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:

Receiving a kidney transplant would give me the opportunity to avoid lifelong dialysis treatment that could hinder the well-being of my life with my family. I could continue working and traveling without having to worry about being sick or scheduling dialysis appointments during travel. It would help me to be more energetic and spend time with my young son.

My Blood Type: O
