Who Am I?
My name is Brian, and I have ESRD. My story, well where to begin. My kidney disease/failure is hereditary unfortunately. We learned in 2024 via biopsy that due to APOL1 gene (homozygous) positive, that I would progress faster into ESRD. My father, paternal grandmother, and many others in my family had kidney disease. Unfortunately, none of them ever received a kidney. I lost my father in 2021 to ESRD, and I lost my father-in-law in 2022 to the same thing. These past several years have been very difficult. I, with the help of my wife, and my 3 kids, am working on doing everything I try to stay positive, control my diabetes, my blood pressure and do everything necessary to make my way to a new kidney. I have an older daughter, in her 30s, but my two younger kids are 12 and 14. I want to be around for them, not just existing, but being able to live with them. I want to be able to get out and do the activities that we all love doing. At the moment, I am unable to do the things we love to do, travel, and live life. We are praying and remaining positive that my kidney will be on its way to me very soon.
My Interests:
Music, Prince is one of my favorites, but I appreciate and love all types. The saxophone is one of the best instruments there are. Fishing, and spending time with my family, traveling, and being able to do regular activities. Those are taken for granted.
My Diagnosis:
ESRD
How A Kidney Transplant Will Affect My Life:
This will allow me to live and not just exist. It will allow me to be around much longer for my wife, my children, and myself. It will also allow me to have the energy and the overall health to do anything.
My Blood Type: 0
